Last week I tried juicing cleanse, so here is my experience and everything you need to know about juicing. Honestly, this is one of the hardest thing I have done in my life. This cleanse was on my list for a while now and I finally had the courage to face this. Some of you may think why Am I so melodramatic. Well, because the hardest part about the detox was psychological and I am so proud that I didn’t cave in.
So here is my experience and fact about juicing. I hope this encourages you to start a healthy lifestyle.
Why did I want to detox?
The first question everyone asked was “Why did you go on this cleanse when you are already skinny? So, first of all I did not start this detox to loose any weight. As most of you know I train hard and workout regularly to stay fit. Last year I was diagnosed for hay fever. So I was sick most of all spring until end of summer. People with this condition will understand how difficult it is to wake up in the morning with itchy eyes and sneezing all day. With this detox I was hoping to boost my immune system for spring. A detox like this is not a cure to hay fever, however I have prescribed medication for this condition.
Fun facts:Research and study says that plant-based juice diet allows food to be assimilated quickly through the intestine — consuming less energy, while the toxin-free, nutrient-dense food helps to repair the gut itself.
Did I loose any weight?
As I said before, I did not go on this cleanse to loose weight. The fact is I did not weigh myself before and after so I wouldn’t know.
What was my diet consist of?
For the last 3 days I only had liquids. No solid food at all. My morning started with 2 glasses of water. Cup of detox tea after half an hour. First juice before leaving to work, I called it mean green because It was less tasty then the rest. It had green apple, spinach, celery, ginger, cucumber and coconut water.
I would make my second juice and carry it with me to work. This was the delicious smoothie which had lots of good stuff for e.g.: banana and almond milk. I will have 2 small cups every 2 hour. By afternoon I was craving for coffee. My body was use to getting caffeine dose around this time so I felt a bit sleepy and had a cup of tea instead. By day 3 I was well adjusted to tea and did not seem to miss caffeine any more.
Then came night, the hardest. My mornings and day went super easy it was the night that I thought of giving in until the last day. My previous routine was work, home, snack, gym and end with light dinner. Well, I stayed in at nights and and try to keep myself busy. I could not concentrate well at night so instead of fighting I treated myself to house of card marathon.
Did I work out?
I had done some research and reading before going on this cleanse, and it clearly said not to indulge in intense workout and training. I found this extremely difficult to skip gym 3 days in a row. I am a gym junkie and love training. By day 2 I practiced yoga and meditation in the mornings this really helped me calm my nerves and accept the changes.
Was I starving and did I feel hungry?
No. I did not feel hungry. I was drinking every 2 hours which kept full all time.
Was I tired?
Well, I started this on my day off. I knew first day will be the hardest. On day 2 and 3 I was at work. It went really fast because I was super busy and it kept my mind of food. On my last day I got my period, by this time I didn’t want to quit and start over again. Usually, first day of period I have stomach cramps and severe pain, however on my detox I didn’t have any of these symptoms in fact I felt way better and stronger.
How did this detox help me?
Yes, I feel super energetic and healthy from inside. I have much more energy throughout the day and find it easy to wake up in the morning. Study says that juicing cleanse will help control cravings and excessive eating. After finishing this cleanse I started to appreciate small things like eating a whole apple. During this detox I realised how much I had missed just eating a whole fruit. Detox like this will help you sustain and build new eating habits.
Do I want to do this cleanse again?
Yes, definitely. I would love to do this every 3 to 6 months.
